SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Labour Minister Diane Finley announced changes today for the Employment Insurance program that will take aim at frequent users and will force workers receiving benefits for a longer period to accept lower paying jobs.
Ron Oldfield who is president of the Saint John District Labour Council says the federal government is passing the brunt of EI to the provinces.
“I just see it as a downloading of responsibility on the provinces. Instead of people getting EI, they’ll be in the welfare line. It just doesn’t make sense.”
Finley says changes announced today for the Employment Insurance program will help employers find workers and Canadians find work.
