MONCTON, N.B. – RCMP and other police agencies in New Brunswick are raising awareness about the Amber Alert program on this National Missing Children’s Day.

Constable Chantal Farrah says the program, which locates children who have been abducted, has been in place in province since 2003, but has not yet been used.

“We’re very fortunate that we’ve never had to activate this program.  But if ever we would need to, it would be ready.”

In the event of an Amber Alert, the RCMP would notify the media, but are now also able to send the same information via social media websites Facebook and Twitter.

Farrah says mobile phone customers can also receive free text messages if they sign up online at wirelessamber.ca.
