SAINT JOHN, N.B.- A new era in municipal politics begins today in Saint John.
A new mayor and council will be sworn in during a ceremony this evening in council chambers.
Former councillor Mel Norton will officially become the city’s new mayor tonight. Norton will be joined by councillors-at-large Shirley McAlary and Shelly Rinehart.
Ward councillors are Bill Farren, Greg Norton, Susan Fullerton, John MacKenzie, Donna Reardon, Donnie Snook, David Merrithew and Ray Strowbridge.
The only official council business expected to be done tonight is the selection of a deputy mayor.
The next meeting of council is set for June 4th.
