FREDERICTON – Five candidates have filed the proper paperwork to be candidates for the provincial by-election in Rothesay June 25.

Progressive Conservative Ted Flemming, Liberal John Wilcox, and NDP Leader Dominic Cardy are joined on the ballot by Sharon Murphy of the Green Party and independent candidate Marjorie MacMurray.

And Chief Electoral Officer Mike Quinn of Elections New Brunswick said nine votes have already been cast by “write-in” ballot.

“The write-in ballot allows you to write or print the name of the candidate you want to vote for on the ballot,” Quinn began. “And if that candidate files nomination papers on time, then your vote would count for that candidate.”

Advance polls are scheduled for June 16th and 18th.

Quinn says voter cards will be in the mail on Monday.

The by-election became necessary when Margaret-Ann Blaney resigned her seat in the legislature to become the CEO of Efficiency New Brunswick.
