(Fredericton)-The New Brunswick legislature rose today after a spring session dominated by debate on shale gas exploration and patronage allegations.
The session saw the Conservative government introduce a new model for public and private pensions including the repeal of the Saint John Pension Act.
Shelley Rinehart who is the new Deputy Mayor of Saint John says even with the repeal of the city pension plan the issues still remain.
“This repeal does not change anything with the pension so the issues that were are experiencing still remain but i think it’s incumbent upon us to educate ourselves with respect to the pension reforms the province has implemented”
The Liberal Opposition made allegations of political patronage when former energy minister Margaret-Ann Blaney was appointed the new president of Efficiency NB, a provincial Crown corporation that promotes energy efficiency.
