GRAND FALLS, N.B.- A legendary horse with New Brunswick connections has added another record to an already stellar racing career.
The Maryland Racing Commission has voted to change Secretariat’s winning time in the 1973 Preakness Stakes to a record 1 minute, 53 seconds from the original time of 1 minute, 54, and two-fifth seconds.
The commission heard more than two hours of testimony, backed by modern technology, to prove Secretariat’s time
was actually faster than recorded by the official timer at the race.
Secretariat was ridden by Hall Of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte who lives in the Grand Falls area.
He tells the New Brunswick Telegraph Journal Secretariat was the fastest horse that ever lived and now he can tell people the horse broke all three records in horse racing’s Triple Crown.
