SAINT JOHN, N.B.- Saint John Transit is responding to comments from a member of Common Council calling for more revenue generating ideas.
Councillor John MacKenzie suggested adding routes to Point Lepreau and the potash mine in Sussex.
Transit General Manager Frank McCarey says they have looked into both scenarios with transit offering a previous charter to Point Lepreau. “The people were able to travel for free and the ridership was not that high on that particular service”, says McCarey. “Currently I believe that the potash mine is running a bus out of Sussex to provide free transportation for people who travel from the city to the mine”.
McCarey says Saint John Transit is always looking for ways to increase revenues, but adds it’s difficult to compete with smaller companies with lower overhead costs.
