SAINT JOHN – Officials at the Cherry Brook Zoo say they will acquire another Siberian Tiger to replace another animal that was euthanized earlier this month.
But zoo director Lynda Collrin says it could take up to a year to bring another tiger to Saint John.
She says the international commission in charge of managing the species has in important job on its hands because the species is endangered.
“We can’t afford to have inbreeding with the small population of tigers that we have to work with for breeding,” Collrin says. “So it’s keeping track of their bloodline, where they are, where they’ve been moved to.”
A 23-year-old Siberian Tiger named Pam, a fixture at the zoo, was put down due to a rapid decline in her health.
