SAINT JOHN, N.B.- It has been a busy month  for those on the Saint John Fire Department who work on the hazmat unit including an incident yesterday in Moncton.

A student at the University of Moncton was taken to hospital as a precaution and later released.

Platoon Chief  Eric Garland says the request for use of the hazmat unit has been up over the last several weeks. “It seems to have been that way lately”, says Garland. “This is the third one, probably within a month, that we’ve dispatched on. It is a part of a contract, an agreement, that we have with the Province of New Brunswick.

Thursday’s incident in Moncton involved a spill of a flammable substance used in some varnishes and paints.
