SAINT JOHN, N.B.- People from all walks of life came out this morning for the official opening of a new affordable housing project in the city’s north end.
11 Second Street is now the home of Jenny’s Spring Housing, a 12 unit apartment building for low-income individuals, families and persons with disabilities in Saint John.
Social Development Minister Sue Stultz says while the provincial and federal governments commit funding to the projects, it’s really the communities that make these facilities come to life. “To sit here today and watch the people that are here that have brought this project to where it it today, it’s just wonderful”, says Stultz. “It’s a good feeling and it’s a good feeling for the communities”.
The housing unit will receive $480-thousand dollars in federal funding toward construction costs, as well as over $970-thousand dollars in rent supplements from the provincial government.
