SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Micaella Boer has been transferred to the Saint John Regional Hospital as she battles a strain of E.coli that killed 7 Canadians twelve years ago.
The 18 year old Fredericton teen was sent to Saint John after test results confirmed the disease was attacking her red blood cells.
Micaella’s mother Victoria Boer tells Global News her daughter is receiving blood transfusions and plasma exchange treatments at the Regional. “It could take a minimum of six treatments; one a day or two, depending on how she’s doing, up to 100 treatments.”
Public Health confirms a second E.coli patient was transferred to Saint John for treatments as well.
There are currently 4 cases involving this particular strain of E.coli in New Brunswick.
