SAINT JOHN, N.B.- The Saint John Police Major Crime Unit will continue its investigation today into a shocking weekend shooting that has left a 31-year old man dead.
The shooting took place early Saturday evening in broad daylight at the corner of Pitt and Leinster Streets with police saying it was not a random act of violence and the victim and suspect knew each other.
The police department’s Public Information Officer Sergeant Jay Henderson says anyone with information is asked to contact police of Crimestoppers. “There have been several interviews that have transpired”, says Henderson. “There is, or are, persons of interest in association with this but no, at this point nobody has been formally charged.”
The shooting took place near the Bacchus Motorcycle Club but police aren’t saying if they believe the incident to be biker gang related.
Margaret McQuinn is an area resident who spoke with Global News. “In this last couple years it’s been quieter”, says McQuinn. All around it’s not too bad but when you hear of something like this going on, it doesn’t surprise you”.
The name of the victim has not been released.
