SAINT JOHN, N.B.- Another Saint John politician is defending the south end as a safe place to live.

Saint John Harbour MLA Carl Killen made the comments following last Saturday’s shooting on Pitt Street that left 31 year Michael Schimpf dead.

The shooting took place near the local Bacchus Motorcycle Club and it’s president 50 year old Matthew Foley has been charged with second degree murder.

Killen says he’s heard from some people who aren’t impressed with the club’s location in the south end. “Much of what we’re hearing lately about their ties to other organizations, shall we say…..they haven’t bothered me personally but maybe it’s time for then to rethink their location”, says Killen.

Killen says he’s lived in the south end for more than 20 years and feels entirely safe living there.

Meantime police confirm a handgun was found last night in the area of the Courtney Bay Causeway. It’s being tested for forensics.
