SACKVILLE, NB – Small communities like Sackville are feeling the effects of cuts at VIA Rail.
Although the train station in Sackville will stay open, starting in October it will be unmanned.
Sackville mayor Bob Berry says the loss of three employees will be significant.
“Those changes are going to have a real effect on our community and on our citizens, students as well as our economy.”
Berry says residents are also concerned about handicapped passengers and how they will get on the train with no staff to help.
Checked baggage will also be discontinued in Sackville this fall and Berry says that will be a big inconvenience to Mount Allison students who are studying in the community.
The train station in Amherst will also be unmanned started in October.
