SAINT JOHN, N.B.- The President of the YM-YWCA in Saint John believes the “Y” and the Aquatic Centre will still both be able to thrive even with another swimming pool in the mix.
Aquatic Centre officials have expressed concern the pool at the “Y” could take up to half it’s customers when the new facility opens at the end of 2014.
Shilo Boucher says the two organizations worked together in the past when the two facilities were located nearby in the uptown. “I really think that there’s a need for a different type of program which the “Y” provides”, says Boucher. “Doing that and working in partnership with the Aquatic Centre is the way to make it happen here in Saint John”.
Boucher says the new pool at the YMCA will be much smaller than the Aquatic Centre and will be used mainly for recreation.
