MONCTON, NB -  A summer storm is expected to blow through our region today.

Rainfall warnings are up for the southern half of the province with up to 50 millimeters of rain expected in some areas.

Meteorologist Richard Zurawski says it’s the same system which blew through Ontario yesterday…

“They actually did get some pretty severe weather out of this… a couple of tornadoes were sighted in Eastern Ontario as the system went through.  They had a tornado watch and warning in effect for a bit.” says Zurawski.

He’s quick to point out though that our proximity to the water helps moderate things so we won’t likely see the type of severe weather that Ontarians did and aside from the heavy rainfall there are currently no severe weather warnings up for our region.

Zurawski says today’s rainfall will probably be of little relief for farmers as any large amount of precipitation coming down will quickly run off…

“You’ll be washing things out and looking at localized flooding and of course on the highways, you could see hydroplaning as well.”  says Zurawski.

The system is forecast to clear out this evening and then we’ll see a return to mainly clear skies and temperatures in the mid-to-upper 20′s.
