FREDERICTON, N.B. – The New Brunswick Pharmacists’ Association believes they could be best solution to the whooping cough outbreak in the province.
Executive Director Paul Blanchard wants pharmacists to be allowed to administer the whooping cough vaccination, before the outbreak gets worse.
He says it makes sense, since many people don’t have a family doctor or have trouble accessing their existing one.
“Roughly a thousand of the two-thousand cases in Canada are right here in New Brunswick, so we think it’s an important issue and a reason for concern.”
Since 2008, New Brunswick pharmacists have been allowed to administer by injections, including some immunizations.
About 200 pharmacists are already certified to administer vaccines, including the flu shot.
