SHEDIAC, NB -A blockade of an American truck carrying Maine lobster has ended peacefully but lobster fishermen in Southeast New Brunswick say their fight is far from over.

Fishermen blockades shut down processing plants in Cap Pele and Shediac yesterday and forced a truck from Maine to head home without unloading.

It’s a small victory for hundreds of fishermen in the region who say their livelihoods are being threatened by cheap American lobster.

Maine trucker Leonard Garnett says he sympathizes with the fishermen but adds it might backfire…

“Because our fishermen may start throwing a stink over there and stopping these guys lobster from coming over there too.” says Garnett.

There’s word an emergency meeting has been called with the minister of fisheries for today to try and find a solution.

The fishermen, whose fishing season begins next week, are vowing to block more trucks and fish plants if something isn’t done.
