(Saint John)-The heart-breaking discovery of a very ill dog, by the Saint John SPCA/Animal Rescue last week, has promoted the organization to ask the community to commit to their pet.
Last Wednesday, an abandoned shit-zu pup had to be euthanized, after it was found, in a cardboard box, suffering from gangrene and covered in maggots.
Melody McElman, president of the board of directors for the SPCA/Animal Rescue, says in poor economic times, animal abandonment cases tend to rise, even though people are more aware of animal cruelty.
” The public has less tolerance for this now years ago it took a long time when you see something like this people are quick to report it”
The organization is reminding pet owners to care for their pets as they’re part of the family and to use common sense.
