SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Matthew Thomas Foley sat stone-faced as a provincial judge gave him ten years in prison for the death of 31-year old Michael Thomas Schimpf last month.
Last month, the local president of the Bacchus Motorcycle Club pleaded guilty to manslaughter after the fatal shooting outside the gang’s clubhouse.
His lawyer, Rodney MacDonald, says he and the crown submitted a joint petition for Foley’s sentence.
“Matthew was well-informed every step of the way; what we were doing, why, and what we were trying to accomplish. So in that regard Matthew was well prepared to face what was coming today. I hope it (the sentence) passes quickly for him.”
Along with the ten year sentence, Foley was ordered to provide a DNA sample and received a lifetime ban from owning firearms.
Members of the Bacchus Motorcycle Club declined to comment.
