MONCTON, NB–Locked out Codiac Transpo workers will have some added support from top Canadian Union leaders
today in the hope of resolving a dispute which began June 27th.

Local Union President George Turple says since the city doesn’t seem willing to negotiate, binding arbitration is the only option left.

“We’ve come to an impasse in the last three rounds at the table. The City has come to us and said “Here it is, take it or leave it.”

Turple says they want to create more public awareness and put more pressure on Moncton City Council, and they’ve invited Canadian Transit Unions leaders to help do that.

“This is not just about us being locked out.  It’s about the attack on Transit in Moncton itself.  There are a lot of people adversely affected by this”

Turple says 7000 residents who reply on the bus everyday are bearing the brunt of the lockout.

Wages and contract language are among the issues which have bogged down negotiations.

Amalgamated Transit Union Canadian Director Stan Dera, and ATU International Vice-President Larry Kinnear are among the union leaders in Moncton today for a news conference, that will get underway at 10am  at the Delta Beasejour.
