SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Activities will be held throughout the week as members of the gay community in Saint John take take part in Pride Week.

Mayor Mel Norton participated in a flag raising ceremony at City Hall.

Brian Boyd, President of Saint John Port City Rainbow Pride, says the gay community is being more widely accepted in Saint John with a number of local businesses making donations for Pride Week.

“They have joined us in saying it’s okay to be gay, it’s okay to be a gay ally, it’s okay to be who you are.”

Pride Week festivities will culminate on Saturday with the Pride Parade which will start on King Street and end at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink on Main Street.
