SAINT JOHN, N.B. – While Common Council may be well known for its disagreements, last night councillors unanimously voiced their support for public transportation in Saint John.
Representatives from Vibrant Communities presented a transportation study to council, revealing that Saint Johners view accessible to public transit as vital to the city.
Saint John Transit General Manager Frank McCarey attended the presentation and says while it highlights the importance of public transportation, common council will ultimately make the best choice for Saint John.
“We can only do what we’re funded to do. I know some of the councillors are very supportive of public transportation and believe it has a bigger role to play in Saint John. I know they also have significant monetary issues they have to face.
Council has voted to review the report during its’ 2013 budget discussions.
Vibrant Communities plans to next take its’ presentation and recommendations to the provincial government.
