SAINT JOHN – The money continues to pour into the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue.
President of the SPCA board of directors Melody McElman said the organization has raised $20,000 in about 48 hours.
The money has come in since the group announced on the weekend that it would have to close without $1 million in new money.
Speaking on the Todd Veinotte Show, McElman says the SPCA is dealing with a serious cash-flow problem.
“We’ve got three sets of property taxes, we’ve got suppliers we owe money to, and we’ve got veterinary bills,” McElman said, speaking on The Todd Veinotte Show. “And our donor base has depleted.”
Shelter Manager Kathy Illingworth believes the shelter needs $200,000 to keep functioning right away.
She said the million-dollar figure includes costs of the SPCA’s new building on Bayside Drive.
