SAINT JOHN, N.B. – No one has submitted a request to appear before the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission as it prepares to host public hearings today in Saint John.
The Commission is travelling the province gathering input into proposed boundary changes.
The Commission’s New Brunswick Chairman Justice Alexandre Deschenes says some of the low turnouts are disappointing but it does send a message.
“But at the end of the day I think we’re coming to the realization that people show up in places where they feel that a major change will affect them.”
Today’s hearings run from 2:30pm to 6pm and from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Delta Brunswick.
Deschenes says the Commission does have some discretion if someone shows up to speak and hasn’t filed a notice of intent to appear.
