SAINT JOHN, N.B.- Details surrounding an incident that closed down part of the west side yesterday are continuing to be revealed.
Two men are facing numerous charges after reports of a threat against Saint John Police was called in from Snacks Convenience late yesterday afternoon.
The Saint John Police Force’s tactical squad shut down King Street West including the local Tim Hortons while police attempted to find the suspect who was allegedly “armed with a gun and wanted to kill a couple of cops”.
Police Staff Sergeant Mike King says they had complete control of the situation and no one had to be evacuated. “There was a school up the street, Havelock School, and we had all the kids remain in the school until it was safe”, says King. “We take every precaution we can think of and make sure that everybody’s safe”.
A 59 year old has been charged with public mischief leading police into a false investigation and a 60 year old has been charged with unsafe storage of a firearm.
The suspects will appear in court at a later date.
