WAWEIG, N.B. – The Route 1 Gateway Project is on track to be completed early.
The Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure announced this morning that the twinning and major projects along the highway are to be completed by October 25th.
Claude Williams says the $540-million project will be a benefit to the province’s economy. “The United States is the biggest trading partner with New Brunswick. We export 85% to the US so certainly this new highway will help trade between the two countries.”
The twinning of the highway is expected to reduce fatal accidents on Route 1 by 90%.
The project was expected to conclude next year.
