FREDERICTON – The province’s chief medical officer of health has made recommendations on how the New Brunswick government can track the health effects of the shale gas industry.
But the government says it is not publicizing the recommendations.
A health department spokesperson also says Dr. Eilish Cleary won’t be giving interviews on the issue at this time.
Tracey Burkhardt says the findings will be shared within the government as it tries to determine how the shale gas industry would be regulated if it is further developed.
In May, the government appointed Louis LaPierre, a University of Moncton biologist, to lead a series of public meetings on its proposed shale gas regulations.
Burkhardt says LaPierre’s report will be released later this month.
