SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The question of safety in local parks has been brought into question following separate attacks in recent weeks.

A female jogger was accosted in Rockwood Park Wednesday night while another woman was sexually assaulted in the Irving Nature Park a couple of weeks ago.

Councillor Shirley McAlary says its very difficult to patrol all the trails inside Rockwood Park.

“We don’t really have security at the parks, that would be hard to put in place, other than our police department making its’ usual patrols through the parks. It would be the same in Rockwood Park as it would be at the Nature Park.”

McAlary says if people are going out at night to walk in the parks or anywhere in the city they should not walk alone.
