FREDERICTON, NB -  With another busy long weekend upon us, RCMP will head out on the roads to make sure everyone gets to and from their destination safely.

Staff Sgt. Stephane Caron tells us Mounties would like to make it through the weekend without having to inform someone that their loved ones have been killed in a car crash…

“Statistically speaking, the odds are against us.   For the past four years, we’ve had five fatalities during the Thanksgiving Weekend.” says Caron.

Caron says officers will be conducting checkstops across the province looking for impaired, distracted and aggressive drivers.

He says they will also be looking to enforce seatbelt laws as it remains one of the leading causes of highway deaths.
