SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Thousands of Saint Johners came out to bid the Digby lighthouse farewell and to eat free scallops!

Later this afternoon, the lighthouse will make it’s trek across the Bay of Fundy on the Princess of Acadia ferry.

Peter Ross is the terminal manager at Seaside Transportation. He says the transfer isn’t a simple process. “There will be two cranes come in; one to pick it up and one to hold it so they can lay it down on the trailer. Before they lay it down a contractor from Digby is going to build some crate work and that protect it. We’ll strap it down after that and away we go.”

The lighthouse came to Saint John from Digby in the 1970′s.

Digby’s mayor requested its’ return to become the centrepiece of their renovated waterfront.
