SAINT JOHN, N.B.- The return of the Digby Lighthouse Party will take place at noon today inside the Market Square Atrium.
This will be the last chance for anyone who wants to say good-bye to the lighthouse that has stood near Loyalist Plaza for a number of years before it makes the trip back to where it came from.
Digby Mayor Ben Cleveland says the lighthouse, which will leave the city today, will return to almost its original location. “It’s going to almost sit on the very spot it stood for seventy years in our harbour”, says Cleveland. “Our harbour is going under a transformation starting in the spring. We’re expanding our wharf facility and building some new breakwaters so this lighthouse is going to be probably within several feet of where it stood for over seventy years”.
Mayor Mel Norton will officially hand over the lighthouse at 12.30 today .
The send off party today will include 230 pounds of Digby scallops
