SAINT JOHN – Some of the world’s top figure skaters will take to the ice at Harbour Station next year.

Saint John has been selected to host the 2013 Skate Canada International between October 25 and 27 next year.

It’s the Canadian stop on the Grand Prix of Figure Skating.

Susan Taylor of the local organizing committee says a total team effort put Saint John over the top.

“I think it’s probably our enthusiasm and the support we’ve received from all levels of government, and local businesses and local skating communities” Taylor says. “All in all, we had the whole package, I think.”

Tickets are expected to go on sale in the spring.

Skate Canada says the average economic impact to the host community in recent years has been about $5.5 million dollars.

Windsor, Ontario, is hosting this year’s event this weekend.
