BLACKS HARBOUR, N.B.- The Liberal MLA for Charlotte-The Isles is hoping a face to face meeting can take place by next week between the government, health care and community officials in Blacks Harbour.
Doctors who work in the emergency department are upset Horizon Health is instituting a $1.50 charge per patient, apparently for overhead purposes.
Doctors are threatening to withdraw emergency services as a result and Rick Doucet says that’s something you don’t see very often. “I don’t know what is around the imposing of the fee for this facility”, says Doucet. “I don’t really think we’ve been comparing apples to apples. I think this facility compared to others that are being charged is completely different from others”.
Doucet is giving Health Minister Ted Flemming credit for reaching out to doctors shortly after the situation was made public last week.
