FREDERICTON, N.B.- First Nations Chiefs in New Brunswick are banding together in an effort to combat poverty in their communities.

The Assembly of First Nations Chiefs in New Brunswick has launched a ten point plan.

Former Liberal cabinet minister Kelly Lamrock is the Assembly’s Director of Research and Operations.

He says the chiefs have admitted what has been done in the past hasn’t worked. “We are letting down a whole generation of youth and, in fact, we’re letting ourselves down”, says Lamrock. “In New Brunswick actually the fastest growing segment of the population and the one with the youngest cohort is our First Nations population”.

The plan focuses on economic development and reforming the education and social assistance systems.

A First Nations economic summit is also being organized.
