SAINT JOHN, N.B.- Many people view it as a kickoff to the Christmas season.

The Saint John Santa Claus Parade celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

Parade Chairperson Leslie Keating says this year’s theme is “Children’s Dreams,Wishes, and Imagination”. “So we have lots of entries from bands, and community groups, and cheerleaders, and dog groups and lots and lots of floats that are full of everything that kids can think of when it comes to Christmas”.

There are over 60 entries in this year’s parade which begins Saturday evening at 6 and travels through the regular route through uptown Saint John and ending in the north end.

Volunteers will be collecting non perishable food items, slightly used children’s clothing, as well as letters for Santa.
