FREDERICTON, NB – More than 6,000 deer were harvested across New Brunswick during this year’s hunt according to the Department of Natural Resources.
DNR biologist Joe Kennedy says that marks about a 25 percent increase over last year and the best harvest since 2008.
“We did issue more antlerless deer permits this year. We had about a 20 percent increase in antlerless deer permits and that was primarily in southern New Brunswick. But we did see an increase in the harvest right across the province, in central and northern New Brunswick where there are no antlerless permits issued,” he notes.
Kennedy says over the last few years we’ve had a couple of mild winters which have boosted the deer population in the province.
