FREDERICTON – The provincial government is taking another step to fight bullying.

The Education Department announced today it has hired two bullying awareness and prevention co-ordinators to oversee anti-bullying efforts in schools and districts.

“Our government’s goal is to create positive, inclusive learning environments where everyone feels safe, welcome and respected,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Jody Carr. “I welcome our two new co-ordinators and look forward to working with them and all of our stakeholders as we work to reduce and prevent bullying in our schools.”

One co-ordinator is earmarked for each linguistic sector.

The department says they will help organize and manage anti-bullying activities and work with stakeholders on bullying and cyberbullying issues in schools.

They will also ensure the protocols in the province’s new anti-bullying legislation are in place and closely monitored.
