FREDERICTON, N.B. – There’s a new policy in place in New Brunswick with regard to pets in public housing units.

New rules have been put in place several months after a public backlash over attempts to rid the buildings of animals.

Social Development Minister Madeleine Dube says the new policy states tenants can have only one pet per unit, pets must be kept on a leash when outside, and tenants are liable if their pet causes damage or injury.

Tenants must also get approval from the department to have a pet in their building.
