SAINT JOHN – Dozens of people gathered in King’s Square this afternoon in a flash mob demonstration against recent comments by a Common Councillor.
Susan Fullerton believes police should charge local prostitutes with jaywalking or improper use of city sidewalks in an attempt to get them off the streets.
“When you want to start fining people for standing on the corners, then you need to start fining the drug dealers, you need to start fining the lawyers who are standing on the corners,” said Tammy Calvin, a community activist in the Old North End. “Don’t pick on one - one – group of people. That is discrimination.”
Council approved Fullerton’s motion to ask police to consider charging prostitutes under local bylaws.
