SAINT JOHN, N.B.- Don’t be surprised if you see a crowd of people jaywalking in unison in the uptown area during the noon hour today.

A Jaywalk Flash Mob is being held in protest of Common Council’s decision to encourage police to use city by-laws to try to rid the streets of sex trade workers.

One of the organizers, Julie Dingwell of AIDS Saint John, says she was shocked when she heard of Council’s decision. “I guess I would have to say I was terribly saddened to think we would have a group of enlightened people recently elected who would choose to use a big stick to hurt the most vulnerable among us”, says Dingwell

The flash mob is assembling in King’s Square at noon with peaceful jaywalking planned for Charlotte Street and at the foot of King Street.
