SAINT JOHN, N.B.- The Safe Harbour House for homeless youth is one step closer to fruition.
Colin MacDonald, the coordinator for Safe Harbour Transitional Youth Services, announced the house will be constructed on the site of the former St. James Anglican Church on Broad Street.
He says this project is the missing piece in the Saint John community. “If even you talk to our partner organizations the one thing that they will say that if you cannot properly house a youth you are very unlikely to be able to move them forward in succeeding in life. This is going to give young people an opportunity to actually take advantage of the resources that are available for them and to not be a statistic”.
It’s unknown when the construction of the 10-bed facility will start.
The emergency housing program will help homeless youth between the ages of 16 and 24.
