MIRAMICHI, N.B. – A former Miramichi-area high school principal who pleaded guilty to sex crimes involving children has been sentenced to one year in jail.

Kirk Matheson was also sentenced to an additional 15 days for breach of an undertaking, and will remain on the sex offenders registry for life.

Police say the 37 year-old posed as a woman online and enticed two boys to send him nude photos of themselves between February and April of this year.

Matheson pleaded guilty earlier this year to using a computer to contact two underage boys in separate incidents for the purpose of committing an offence.
