FREDERICTON, N.B.- New Brunswick’s Opposition parties are levelling criticism following the Alward government’s throne speech yesterday to open up the fall sitting of the legislature.
Premier David Alward says innovation will be at the centre of efforts to rebuild the economy.
Liberal Leader Brian Gallant says the Conservatives plan is nothing new and people will have to base their judgements on the government’s results. “The results are 11.6(%) unemployment, the results are a deficit that is over 300 million dollars,
the results are that we have a debt that’s approximately 10 billion dollars and we are one of two provinces to have lost jobs in 2012″
NDP Leader Dominic Cardy targeted the plan to create a ministerial committee on jobs and the economy. He says cabinet should make those decisions, not a committee.
Cardy was also critical of the province’s plan to release a blueprint on the resource and natural gas industry which is expected this week. “How many more blueprints and plans and reports and documents does this government need to produce before they actually show some leadership and decide what they want to do”. “We’ve had new regulations put in place, we’ve seen the negative reaction from industry. What I haven’t seen from the government is any plan to move forward. I’m assuming it’s because they’re getting spooked as we get closer to an election.
Green Party Leader David Coon says he would have liked to have seen an announcement to create a community investment development fund to help create more jobs at the community level.
