SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Claude MacKinnon is wondering when the city of Saint John’s retired employees are going to be officially updated on the status of their pension plan.
So far the only updates the president of the Saint John retirees association has received on the pension task force’s recommendations has been through the media.
MacKinnon says a letter from common council proves the task force was to consult both active and retired city employees. “I’ve been expecting that at some point in time that I would hear from somebody but this idea of hearing in this fashion is just not acceptable.”
The retirees association is planning to meet next Tuesday, the day after the expected vote on the future of the pension plan.
The task force recommended the city adopt a shared risk plan to cut Saint John’s annual pension payments by millions of dollars.
