(Saint John)-A new access road is being built off Route 1 near the Harbour Bridge by the province to accommodate over sized loads using the Port of Saint John.
Captain John McCann, Vice-President of Operations for the port, says after the changes on the Harbour Bridge it made it difficult for wide loads to access the port.
“The road bed itself was raised on one end which made it impossible to access the thruway with wide loads so we had some talks with the province and they agreed to build an access road so that is going on right now”
When completed, eastbound over sized loads will have direct access to the port.
