MONCTON, NB – The fate of Fred Prosser is now in the hands of a jury.
The 33-year-old Shenstone man is charged with first degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend Sabrina Patterson.
Justice George Rideout prepared a 50 page document to instruct the jury before they began deliberations shortly before noon today.
Justice Rideout told the seven woman, five man jury they must find Prosser guilty or not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Their verdict must be unanimous and if not they will be discharged and a new trial will be held.
In addition to first degree murder, Prosser is also charged with sexual assault and sexual assault causing bodily harm.
Justice Rideout told the jury they must find a separate verdict for each charge.
