SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Changes to New Brunswick’s graduated drivers’ licensing program are not sitting well with the president of CAA Atlantic.

The Alward government wants to lift the ban on late night driving, for new and young drivers, between midnight and 5am.

CAA Atlantic President Steve McCall has no idea why the Alward government would suggest this.

“Every expert testimonial they sought said ‘Do not change this, the science doesn’t support this, you’re putting our young people at risk’. So the Alward government is acting against all the research and science that exists.”

McCall believes new drivers need to gain experience under the safest conditions.

CAA says the combination of reduced visibility, glare, fatigue and impaired drivers make nighttime driving particularly dangerous for inexperienced drivers.
