FREDERICTON, N.B. – Ted Flemming will be adding two auditors to determine if some New Brunswick doctors are double billing.
The Health Minister’s comments follow Tuesday’s auditor general’s report that showed concerns about some doctors charging Medicare and WorkSafeN-B for the same procedures on the same patients.
He says it’s hard to say how far back the investigation will need to go.
“So you can’t pick a year out of the blue and say ‘this is the year’. You follow the trail. And if there’s a trail of impropriety, I tell you, I’m going to find it.”
Flemming adds he believes most doctors are honest and bill the system properly.
In 2011, Medicare payments to doctors totaled more than $553-million.
