SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is being honoured today by New Brunswick’s Federation of Labour.

It’s calling upon the provincial government to take action to help stop male violence against women.

Tammy Moore, chair of the federation’s women’s committee, says everyone plays a part in ending the on-going issue.

“It can’t just be the women groups. It can’t just be the unions, and it can’t just be the men with the white ribbon campaigns. Honestly I would like to have a magic wand to say ‘ok we’re going to put a stop to this’ but after 23 years the fight continues more than ever.”

Today is the 23rd anniversary of the shooting at l’Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal that left 14 young women dead.

The National Day of Remembrance will be marked tonight, by several organizations, with a memorial service in UNB’s Grand Hall at King’s Square tonight, starting at 7pm.
